One Day at a Time Devotional
One of my favorite moments is when there is a full moon outside at night: I love the beauty of its’ brightness as it shines down upon the earth. I look forward to the quiet evenings when everyone is asleep in the home. It is during these evenings when I look through the window up at the moon thanking and praising God for His goodness and mercy.
This may seem like such an insignificant moment to some, but God states in Genesis 1:14-18 that He has made the sun and moon for seasons, days, and years: to light the earth. I enjoy the change of seasons, I have favorite days and I look back to a few favorite years in my lifetime. For those of us who are more scheduled than others, you enjoy the order God has created. It was God that divided the light from the darkness: day and night. It is a sunny day that brings encouragement and motivation to accomplish tasks or a day for fun. He created the evenings to spend with family, personal quiet time or relaxation before sleep. God has done this for you and I, isn’t God good?
God accomplishes many great details in our lives each day! He is the reason why you have been created, He is the reason why you have a family, He is the reason why you are able to view these very words, He is the reason why you have the ability to sing, He is the reason why you have the ability to move and breathe, and He is the reason that you have salvation through His Son Jesus and a place reserved in Heaven for you.
It is God Who deserves your praise, attention, and devotion. In addition, it doesn’t stop at personal praise and commitment, but it manifests itself in sharing with others what God has accomplished in your life. When is the last time you praised Him for His goodness? When is the last time you thanked Him for your salvation through His son Christ Jesus? When is the last time you told someone how much God has done for you?
Often, I will proclaim to my children and husband how good God is through His creation. The beauty around us is for our benefit and for God’s glory. I would like to challenge each of you to spend more time praising God and reminding those around you of Him, He is real and He is so good! “5 Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.” Isaiah 12:5
And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.
2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
4 And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.
5 Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.
6 Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.
